The town Jelsa is located in the middle of the island of Hvar and is mild, clean and open hearted to the guests and travelers.Jelsa is surrounded by the two highest mountains on the island - in the west St. Nikola, and in the east Hum. From the south side Jelsa is surrounded by mountains Vrh, Samotorac and Gozd from the north side it is protected from cold north winds by the hill Biokovo.
The start of tourism on the island going back deep into the past, to ancient times and the Middle Age. There are finds of the villae rusticae throughout the field of Hvar, and also economic buildings and summer cottages. Many adventurers, ethnologists and archaeologists visited the island and researched the herbs, minerals and the antique monuments in the Middle Age.

A strong development of tourism and the construction of hotels, pensions, apartments restaurants, bars, discotheques and other tourist objects happened when the tourism became the most important economic branch on the island around 1970.
The cultural and historical treasury of Jelsa and the island Hvar consists of numerous monuments situated in: churches, parks, caves in the field, on squares etc.
The bays and capes are adequate for swimming. There are nice gravel beaches surrounded by pine forets, which offer you the necessary refreshment and shade during the summer heat. In 1991 the island of Hvar signed the declaration of the Middle Dalmatian islands - ecological clean area.

Sucuraj

Sucuraj, Hvar
Sucuraj lies on the eastern edge of the island Hvar. Sucuraj is located on a marvelous decor, which is made by the hills of Biokovo, the peninsula Peljesac and the Adriatic Sea. The first written documents about Sucuraj are from the 14th century and are preserved until today, while the ancient Sucuraj is mentioned in the famous epic 'Iliadie' written by Homer, in which Sucuraj is named Kila situated on the east of island Leke (island Hvar). According to the Greek mythology this is where Agamemnon, the Achaia king of Mikena, has "casted a damnation unto his opponents".
In the last decades Sucuraj has developed into a small city which is monument for itself (1975 it gets the status of a cultural monument), because it has preserved until today the succession of the architectural forms from the past. The church of the Saint Anthony from Padova, built in the baroque style with gothic elements, today represents one of the most worthy monuments of the cultural sacral heritage of Sucuraj.
The second by its value is the monastery of St. Augustin and the church of St.Jure, the building which began in 13th century and developed intensively in the 15th and 16th century. It is beautiful to go for a stroll around Sucuraj between the stone houses crowded together, continue the stroll around the lighthouse, and the south and north coast of the cape, and admire the colors and the sea.

Every guest will have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of this works and feel the quality of domestic vine, olive-oil, brandy, fish and several other domestic specialities in one of the restaurants in Sucuraj. Even the biggest gourmand will not stay indifferent.

The bay Perna, 1,5 km away from the city and the bay Mlaska, 3 km away from it are unique rarities on the Adriatic Sea because of the fine sand on bottom of the sea, which cannot be found anywhere around.
There are many types of recreation: day and night fishing, riding bicycle, sailing, diving, the cultural summer with various events, in which the folk feast 'Ribarske noci' - 'Nights of the fishermen' stands as a special experience.
The accommodation in Sucuraj is offered in mainly private houses and apartments. The campers find their place in the autocamp 'Mlaska', while the yachtsmen can stay in the little marina. Your arrival will be easier a: more pleasant with the excellent ferry connection to the coast on the relation Sucuraj - Drvenik.
Bays in Hvar island

The houses in bays both on the north and south side of the island were built by local inhabitants, initially as fisherman weekend houses, while the main residence was in willages inside the island. During time this houses were redecorated for tourism and renting.

Sveta Nedjelja is the village below the highest peak on the island Sveti Nikola (626 m), located 12 km east from the city of Hvar.Sveta Nedjelja is situated on the steep and sunny slopes of the island Hvar which makes it a famous centre for the production of the best types of Hvar red wine (plavac) and a popular tourist destination.
The coast between Sveta Nedjelja and Zavala (10 km of Sveta Nedjelja) has several little coves with wonderful fine pebble beaches where you can find some privacy.

Intact nature and clear sea add to the special atmosphere. Fishing grounds lie to the island Scedro and the Lukavci islands.
Sveta Nedjelja is a very popular free-climbing destination. There are is a small market in the village and several restaurants that serve local dishes and excellent vines.

Welcome to Hvar, an ancient town with a rich history on the island in the Croatian Adriatic Sea with the same name. Hvar is proud that it has the most sunny hours of all the islands in the Adriatic Sea.Many people say of the town Hvar that it is a town as from a fairy- tale because its arhitecture, wonderful nature and its mild climate. Ivan Dolac

Ivan Dolac, Hvar
Ivan Dolac is a tourist village situated on the southern part of the island Hvar, 10 km from Jelsa, 20 km from Stari Grad and 38 km from the town of Hvar.Ivan Dolac is famous for its grape-growing fields that give wine of exceptional quality.
Except good wine, Ivan Dolac is rearing with its environment, full of aromatic plants (lavender and rosemary) and other flora of Mediterranean climate.
Its gravel beaches (the most famous are Šuplja stina and Lučišće near Sveta Nedjelja, Jagodna, Paklina, Petarčica) make it a very attractive destination for all those who want a peaceful vacation without the city rush.

There is a market and several restaurants in the village - everything else can be found in the nearby town of Jelsa.
Stari Grad

Stari Grad, Hvar
Stari Grad (Pharos) is the oldest town in Croatia. The same year - 384 b.c. when greek philoshoper Aristotel was born in Trakia, the greeks from the island of Paros in Agean sea have settled the town on the island of Hvar, and named it Pharos.Stari Grad (eng. "old town") is historical heart of the island of Hvar. The town is situated in a landscape where the blue of the deep bay touches the green of the wide an famous field of Pharos, with vineyards and olive-groves. The fields used to provide sustenance and the bay provided protection.
Today, both the fields and the bay add an attractive quality to the island, in which the modern vacation sights have become intertwined with the antiquities of the town and of the island.

The town is surrounded with pine tree forest and cooled with summer breeze (maestral). In the hot summer days it is one of the rare Dalmatian places where the air is fresh and the sleep refreshing. A thousand years long history of the Town has left many monuments in the urban structure of the Town.

Lately, the old stone houses have been renewed by inhabitants, and offered for rent which proved to be successful symbiosis of past time spirit and modern facilities.

Still forward to the Stari Grad ferry station, between old town and city beach Lanterna, there is residential area "Boric" with more then 30% of Stari Grad accommodation facilities. The area is surrounded by pine trees and it is just 100 m from the Lanterna beach.

Basina is one of the most beautiful bays of the island of Hvar. Basina is situated on the northeast side, in the middle of the island, and it is only a few kilometres away from Stari Grad, Jelsa and Vrboska.It is surrounded by the thick pine forest and immersed in the fields of olive trees, lavender and vine plantations with extraordinary nature, clean coasts and sea water.
